...at least that's how I felt about myself yesterday. I went to bed too late the night before (remember my goal for the week?) so I hit the snooze button a few too many times. I did manage to get out of bed and get through my Insanity
After a day like that I just felt like a failure. I had disappointed myself for not trying to stick to my one goal for the week. Upset that I hadn't kept my body fueled and burning calories all day...instead I probably sent it into starvation mode for a few hours.
As I reflected on the day, I tried to focus on the positives...I actually got out of bed and did my workout instead of sleeping in and using the kids as an excuse. Instead of choosing my regular burger, fries and pop, I choose to have a small salad, baked potato and water. Two things that, just a few weeks ago, would not have happened.
In the past I would have slept in and then that would have sent the rest of my day into a downward spiral. "I didn't wake up in time, so I'll eat sugared cereal and stop and get a frozen coffee drink for breakfast...because I ruined having a good breakfast, what's the point, I'll just eat burgers and fries for lunch...I feel terrible after that lunch, but the day is ruined anyways so let's order a pizza for dinner and then once the kids are in bed, veg in front of the tv with a bag of chips"
We are bound to fail at some point, it's inevitable. But we need to change our mindset to get back up, dust ourselves off and try harder the next time. Every day is a new day to be better than the day before, and tomorrow is an opportunity to surpass today.
I'm choosing not to worry about the small little missteps throughout the day, but focus on what I can do better next. It's been a real uphill battle for me to finally get my brain to wrap around this idea. It's hard not to get down on myself and see myself as a failure.
I'm not a failure...I'm just changing...and sometimes change takes a while, but I'll get there!
I love this post. :] You can do it! Keep up all of your awesome work!
